Milwich with Fradswell Parish Council have been issued with a petition from 37 residents in Milwich regarding the planned Queens Jubilee celebrations by the Parish Council.
The petition states :- it was the decision of the Parish Council to hold a Jubilee Celebration at the stables on Sunday 5th June 2022. The petition asks that this is changed to a street style party on the Saturday 4th June as it is felt that a street party at the Always would be more accessible to the whole village.
It was the intention of the Parish Council to resurrect the Milwich Fete on Saturday 4th June which would be held at the Stables with the provision (funded by the Parish Council ) of a marquee to weather proof the event. It was hoped that this fete would help raise monies for the planned playground improvements and other projects that the Parish Council wanted to carry out and support local community groups with funding.
It was also the intention of the Parish Council to hold a Jubilee party at the stables on the Sunday utilising the already erected marquee so safe guard against the weather and any potential Covid restrictions.
The Parish Council would like to add that there are many outlying residents in Milwich and not just those in the centre of the village. Those residents would have to travel to either the centre of the village or to the stables.
It is a concern for the Parish Council that the centre of Milwich would not be able to accommodate ALL the four hundred Parishioners of Milwich, and also that the Village Hall has a capacity limit and that was much less than that of a marquee.
Unfortunately the kind offer of the land and facilities of the stables for the Milwich fete has now been withdrawn. This is extremely disappointing that this vital fundraising event will now not take place. Funding for local groups will be hard to come by in the next few years and it was the ambition of the Parish Council to build a pot of monies that local groups could apply for grants to.
Concerns have been expressed by residents who have signed the petition that they did not fully understand the plans of the Parish Council and would have not have signed the petition if they had known the full information. We would urge any residents to think about helping the Parish Council resurrect the fete if it goes ahead next year. After the village fayre it was planned to have a Sunday afternoon of fun and games to bring the Parish together in celebration of the Queens Jubilee.
Please note that Parish Councillors are not paid for the time and effort they give to Parish Council duties. This situation has taken away the focus of the original good intentions of the village fayre and its intentions.
